Juan Caicedo has a B.A. in Natural History and Cultural Studies from Prescott College in Arizona. For his senior thesis he worked with rural and urban communities in Sonora, Mexico to protect a riparian area important for birds and archaeological conservation. Since 2001 he has been actively involved with bird conservation and economic diversification projects in northwest Mexico that provide incentives for resource conservation, including birds and bird habitat and historic and pre-historic cultural sites. Juan has also worked on several bird research projects in northwest Mexico, including inventories, bird banding, endangered species monitoring, and developing low-cost low-technology bird habitat restoration with native plants. In addition to birds Juan has a strong interest in human history and combines his interest in birds and natural history with the cultural history and current socioeconomic context of the areas in which he leads tours. He has traveled extensively throughout Latin America and is currently coordinating a regional program that combines bird habitat conservation and birding ecotourism in northwest Mexico.
